As a result, he was declared an instant "genius."

If he were still alive today, we'd be seeing him on "Where are they now?" specials and perhaps as a guest host on American Idol.

He was an ******* for killing himself

whatever.. well at least they play Nirvana to... (death)... on WHFS.

I'm over it, enjoying the newer bands without really a care about the past.

I saw Nirvana just a couple of months before he chickened out. Good show. Way to leave your family hanging.


Also, what about this "religious" group that worships Kurt Cobain?

Nirvana meant a lot to me growing up, they were by far my favorite band when they first came out and Kurt's death hurt me quite a bit since I was very young at the time and I idolized the guy.

I started playing guitar because of Nirvana, and although I do not listen to them now nearly as much as I used to, they represented an important period in my adolesence. Kurt's influence was and is undeniable, and he along with Nirvana helped open doors for one of the most important musical movements in recent history that helped expose great bands such as Soundgarden, RATM, Alice in Chains, Tool, Pearl Jam, and others.

Thanks for the music Kurt.

The Pixies seem to get lost in the mix here. So many people so Nirvana was the most influencial alternative band, but I believe it all started with The Pixies, who I think are far better than Nirvana.

Thanks for the sincere post. If only the rest of us could spend the day reflecting on the loss of a talented musician and not take this opportunity to bash what was a troubled, seriously sick man.

A very dissappointing day.

I think it had a negative impact on music as well, at least for me as grunge/punk is my favorite genre by far. With his death, and Pearl Jam shunning the mainstream, the genre kind of faded from air play and mainstream music has offered little of interest to me since.

Nirvana was the band that first introduced me to current music which was played with feeling. Too long had I listened to the crap they played on the radio, taking it as the best out there because it was the only thing I had heard. Once I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit, I knew everything I had heard before was crap, and this was the type of music I had been waiting for to resurface.

Nirvana played music with feeling and Kurt sung his lyrics with heart. Kurt was able to express feeling better than any artist I had heard previously. When listening to Nirvana's music, I could feel the pain with which the songs were writen. I understood what was being said and I could relate to that in some way.

No one will know exactly why he left us so early. I still love and listen to what he left us and will never forget what he contributed to this world. Nirvana's potential was unlimited and who knows what greatness we have missed out on.

Thank you Kurt, you will always be remembered.

All i remember was that everyone was depressed because of it and it ruined my birthday. ;)

Loved the Unplugged album tho.

Nirvana were amazing,"In Utero" is one of the most underrated albums of alltime.I was in my early 20's when they came on the scene and i really felt jealous that the "kids" of that time got this great music(along with Pearl Jam,Soundgarden,Alice in Chains,etc) while back in the 80's when i was in high school we had crap for music which i didnt realize was crap at the time.

As far as Kurt's death,i wasnt that shocked when i heard the news but it still bummed me out.

I like Foo Fighters much more than Nirvana, so...

Kurt was indeed a talent. By going out with a bang at the hieght of his career (We can assume) he stapled his name. Groucho is right. if he were still around today we would look at him like we look at Billy corrgan(sp).

It was ten years ago that he died, in a day or two it would be ten years ago when we found out.

This was one of those times.

Anyway, I think Nirvana was great and would have bought anything that they put out. Some of their B-sides are top notch.

We probably would wonder where he is now had he not killed himself, but I think it would be more because he probably would have walked away from Nirvana and done some small scale independant recordings. I wouldn't be surprised if he had just become a recluse and wrote songs that were never published at all.

It is interesting to think where he would be now. I don't think Nirvana would still be together, but I believe Kurt would still be making music in some respect, maybe as a solo artist or something. I think Foo Fighters would be around just the same as well. I think he would still be considered important, because his band did open up the gates for other bands of that genre to flourish, despite the fact that Nirvana wasn't nearly the best or first Grunge/Seattle alt. rock band.

Personally Nirvana was the last "grunge" band I got into, so he doesn't mean as much to me as he does to others. I felt much worse when Layne died than I did when Kurt did.
